Job Description

Job Summary:

The Nurse Assistant assists with basic patient care activities.


  • Assists with procedures ordered by physician and supervised by a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Assists patients with tending to personal care, activities of daily living and transfers/transport.

  • Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.

  • Assists with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.

  • Demonstrates wise, appropriate use of supplies and resources.

  • Collects, reports and documents data including temperature, pulse, respiration, weight and blood pressure. Makes rounds to offer patient assistance and appropriately supply requests for patient needs according to patient status. Maintains patient's proper diet and status regarding doctor's orders, lab requirements, and scheduled X-rays. Passes food trays, assists patients with eating needs according to patient ability, and records and/or notifies nurse of changes in eating patterns.

  • Responsibilities may vary over time. Required to perform other duties as required for the efficiency and effectiveness of the department and job role.



  • Required Credential(s):

  • St. John Heart Institute CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

  • Preferred Credential(s):

  • Completion of Nursing Assistant Training Program or CNA credential preferred but not required.

  • Previous health care related experience will be considered.


  • High school graduate or GED preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 0-6 months related experience preferred.
