The VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21) is an integrated health care system serving Veterans over a broad geographic area encompassing Nevada, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, northern California, and Manila, Philippines. This includes 7 Medical Centers, 54 outpatient clinics and 8 VA nursing homes. VISN 21 delivers health care services through a network of medical centers, outpatient clinics, community-based and home care services, and contracted community care. The CMO reports to the VISN 21 Network Director and serves as advisor for all clinical operations within the VISN. The CMO has oversight for a standard system of credentialing and privileging for providers across the VISN. The CMO has major responsibility for quality improvement and utilization management throughout the VISN and ensures that all programs are customer focused. The CMO also ensures availability of a strong primary care base and access to specialty services, holding staff accountable for meeting national and VISN performance goals and standards. The CMO provides direct support to clinicians in all health care facilities and programs within the VISN and interfaces with VA Headquarters offices and officials as appropriate for coordination of services. The CMO also supports research and academic affiliations throughout the VISN.

As the Chief Medical Officer you will:

  • Serve as professional liaison to the Department of Veterans Affairs, other federal agencies, the community, academic affiliates, and congressional liaisons

  • Coordinate strategic planning efforts for healthcare delivery with effective business planning to assure access to high quality care**

  • Work with the VISN 21 Medical Centers to ensure that facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of the VISN and VHA**

  • Promote an effective mix of coordination and support of VISN clinical programs by evaluating current and potential patient population needs, clinical workload and resources

  • Participate in ongoing facility assessments to assure continual readiness and compliance with internal and external surveys, both announced and unannounced

  • Achieve corporate objectives in quality of services and programs throughout the VISN as evaluated by internal indicators, regulatory reviews and accreditation, and patient satisfaction data.**

  • Ensure continuous improvement and implementation of Systems Redesign principles relative to the quality, value and access of health care services

  • Promote effective communication and working relationships between the VISN 21 facilities and their affiliates, while continuing to focus on patient care needs at the facility

  • Support an environment in which research is encouraged and supported and conducted in a manner which complies with VA and other federal regulations, policies, and guidelines as well as accreditation requirements.

Basic Requirements:

Preferred Experience: Board certification in a medical specialty is preferred.
