Recent Graduate Program Information:
This position is located in the Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) with the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in Valley Stream, NY. The Wildlife Inspection Assistant provides assistance to wildlife inspectors or other inspection assistants and support staff in the program area and performs a variety of supporting administrative and technical assignments supporting inspection work.

Maintenance and disposal of seized and forfeited evidence
Maintaining the property in the New York Inspection Kit
Assist in planning/coordination and scheduling inspection activities.
Provide an initial examination of documents submitted by the trade such as bills of lading, dock receipts, customers and commercial invoices, foreign export permits, etc. and collects appropriate fees.
Gather, screen, and provide factual information or data related to inspections.
Obtain background information on subjects of inspections.
Review, approve, and issue permits and licenses and collect fees including examining applications, determining appropriate inspection and permit fees, maintaining accounting records, answering questions from trade community and public, and tracking reporting overall data.
Compile and track inspection data for a variety of purposes including required reports, budget justifications, trend analysis, etc.
Review routine compliance paperwork and ensure compliance with permits.
Participate in outreach activities such as classroom presentations, job fairs, and public events to educate travelers, industry and others regarding wildlife transport laws.

Applicants meet the following eligibility requirement, and provide documentation such as a copy of your official transcript and/or veteran's documentation by the closing date of the announcement to be considered:
- Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.
- Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply.
To qualify for the GS-05 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service. You must have direct and/or related experience in all of the examples listed below to meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Examples of this experience:performing investigative work; analyzing problems and identifying significant factors; gathering pertinent data and recognizing solutions, organizing work and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Selective Service: Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
Wearing the FWS Uniform Required
Valid Driver's License Required
Medical Examination Required. Failure to successfully meet the medical requirements may be grounds for termination.
Work may require some physical effort such as prolonged standing, bending, stretching, and lifting.

- Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.
Salary Range: $36,515.00 to $58,802.00 / Per Year
