The EY Independence

Team operates within the Risk Management group of the Firm and serves the

Oceania region covering Australia, New Zealand, PNG and Fiji.


is a concept fundamental to the audit profession and is pervasive in all

professionals should be free from interests that might be incompatible with

objectivity, integrity and impartiality, both in fact and in appearance and has

its origins from Professional standards as well as the Corporations Act . This position is an integral part of our core

Your keyresponsibilities

This is a busy and varied 4 day role where you be responsible for providing consultation on

interpretation of policy, administration of global tools and processes to

prevent independence issues; as well compliance testing and identifying and developing

actions for continuous improvement. With the chance to work across all service

lines you will develop critical relationships with key stakeholders and assist

them to manage the complexities of working in a regulated environment. You will

have the full support and supervision of senior independence and risk


Skills and attributesfor success

  • Abilityto provide outstanding support to the relevant Independence process, includingreporting and follow up of any identified outstanding matters

  • Applyingyour expertise to compliance testing of relevant areas such as services,personal or firm independence

  • Providingadvice on auditor independence processes to service line personnel

  • Assistingand supporting other members within the Independence team as and when required

  • Answering Independencehotline and fielding queries to other team members


To qualify for the roleyou must have:

  • Approximately 2-3 years demonstrated experienceof working in an independence, compliance or auditing background(preferred but not essential)

  • Ability to assimilate policy wording andtranslate to layman’s terms for key clients

  • Proven project management skills and thecapability to manage the demands of multiple stakeholders

  • Excellent process improvement skillswith a meticulous eye for detail

  • Tertiary qualification preferred in anydiscipline

Ideally, you’ll alsohave:

  • A great customer service mind-set andexperience dealing with complex scenarios

  • Sound analytical capability, intermediate excel skills andconfident with data manipulation

  • Ability to remain calm and focused in adeadline driven environment
