Fairmont Empress has embarked on an exciting strategic renovation project that will see over $30 million dollars invested into capital improvements spanning two phase. Phase 1 commenced in autumn 2015 and launched late spring 2016. The renovations showcase upgrades and enhancements to guest rooms & suites, meeting spaces, spa & public areas, and include the addition of a new harbour front restaurant & lounge. Further renovation highlights include the expansion of luxurious Fairmont Gold rooms & suites inventory; a new Fairmont Gold Lounge & patio above the famed “The Empress” sign; and the addition of a lobby lounge & pâtisserie in the iconic Afternoon Tea Room. A Royal Suite has been designed to provide guests an unrivalled, luxurious one-of-a-kind experience in an expansive suite that features a breathtaking view of Victoria’s Inner Harbour. No details will be spared to bring modern luxury hotel experiences to the forefront of Fairmont Empress’ next chapter. The Sales Manager works in partnership with a team of Sales Managers to drive high-end business. Hotel Overview:

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, Group Sales, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Accountable for prospecting and booking group business (all segments) within a defined territory
  • Exceed personal sales goals, monthly, quarterly, annually
  • Collect market and competitive intelligence to maximize group sales opportunities
  • Develop monthly sales strategy and action plans
  • Build relationships with all relevant stakeholders: Fairmont Global Sales Office(s), The Victoria Conference Centre, Tourism Victoria, DMC’s, Attractions and Offsite Venues
  • Partner with regional and national sister hotels to optimize Fairmont exposure and build incremental business
  • Budget for, plan and organize site inspection, FAMS, sales trips and industry trade shows
  • Utilize Opera Sales System to track, solicit, book and follow up on accounts
  • Quote and negotiate rates within established parameters
  • Upon closing, coordinate and follow up with convention services, catering and/or other hotel departments to ensure delivery of hotel's promised services
  • Jointly supervise the training and development of a Sales Representative
  • Support group sales team and handle special projects as assigned
  • Participate in active training and development
  • Support the goals, objectives and philosophies of The Fairmont Empress
  • As this role includes the Toronto market, candidates residing in Toronto would be considered for a work from home role.
Employee Status


  • Minimum of 3 year hotel Sales Manager experience required
  • Previous experience / knowledge of this territory an asset
  • Proven ability to build relationships and find new business: prospecting, networking, site inspections and sales calls
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Bachelors degree and/or Hotel Management Degree an asset
  • Computer literacy (Opera, Microsoft Office)
  • Financial aptitude an asset
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Bilingual (French/English) an asset
