OSF Healthcare Biomedical Equipment Technician in United States

The Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician III (BMET III) position at OSF HealthCare System is an advanced level position for the provision of general and highly specialized medical equipment repair services and active mentoring of other Biomeds in support of the maintenance of clinical equipment installed throughout the OSF HealthCare System. The BMET III serves primarily at the facility, and as needed at the regional level acting as a technical resource for key stakeholders throughout the OSF HealthCare System. Key stakeholders include all others in the Clinical Engineering department, OSF point of care clinicians and other local staff.


Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment or Electronics Technology, or military electronics training.

Certification from the International Certification Commission (ICC) as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).

Successful completion of five or more qualified vendor or third party service schools.

Six to seven years progressive experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician.

Knowledge of Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations as they relate to the effective operation of the Clinical Engineering department.

Experience working with Computerized Medical Equipment Management software systems and relational databases.

Good working knowledge of a wide variety of clinical equipment with a working knowledge of various job elements performed by other Biomeds.

Ability to present complex data in a concise format.

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required.

Ability to work well with others.

Excellent general office computer skills and the ability to process detailed information in an accurate manner.

Ability to use common bench, power and hand tools, and test equipment associated with the maintenance of medical equipment.

Fundamental knowledge of: 1. Anatomy and Physiology. 2. Public safety in healthcare facilities. 3. Fundamentals of electricity and electronics, pneumatics and mechanical principles. 4. Healthcare technology function and operation. 5. Healthcare technology problem solving. 6. Healthcare information technology.


Net and A Certification preferred.
