Pharmacy Technician Full-Time/Variable Shifts The shifts are 8 hours with start times 5:00 AM-1:30 PM; 7:00 AM-3:30 PM; 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM, or 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM. The pharmacy technician II, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assists in the various activities of the pharmacy department not requiring the professional judgment of the pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians II prepare and assist in the distribution of parenteral medications and fluids, oral, topical and all other forms of medication. In addition, other roles the pharmacy technician II fulfills include: operation of the pharmacy information systems, receiving and processing physician orders in preparation for pharmacist review, maintaining areas of decentralized medication dispensing (satellite pharmacy, automated dispensing cabinets), repackaging and packaging of medication, competency in compounding sterile products, interdepartmental liaison, quality improvement activities, and related work as assigned. 1. Accurately prepares medications for pharmacist review and dispensing. 2. Prepares medications and restocks floor-stock, automated dispensing cabinets, medication trays and specialty kits. 3. Accurately and efficiently fills unit dose carts. Routinely participates in the delivery and exchange of unit dose cart cassettes. 4. Receives and processes medication orders and general phone calls. Triages and prioritizes medication orders and phone calls based on patient/customer needs and processes orders, prepares medications, and notifies the pharmacist as appropriate. 5. Repackages, labels, and maintains a working inventory of medications requiring pharmacy repackaging. 6. Maintains a working knowledge of medication handling and storage, such as, identifying medications requiring refrigeration, light sensitivity etc. and appropriately prepares, labels and stores such medications. 7. Assists in processing charges for medications. 8. Assists in maintaining an efficient and prudent working stock of medications, fluids and supplies. 9. Operates automated dispensing cabinets in accordance with policy and procedures. 10. Competently performs aseptic technique and preparation procedures for adult, pediatric, and neonatal sterile dosage forms, including chemotherapeutic agents, total parenteral nutrition, and various other sterile medications, dosage forms, and delivery systems. Maintains working knowledge and demonstrates understanding of operation of laminar airflow hoods and clean room environment. 11. Accurately maintains records, and abides by regulations and policies, concerning control and accountability for all controlled substances 12. Performs the technical functions of the satellite pharmacy independently. 13. Participates in the training and/or orientation of new pharmacy employees Etc. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent certificate preferred. Satisfactory completion of courses in basic chemistry, algebra, medical terminology, and related health sciences is desirable.
