Job Description

ITW Powertrain Metals Division serves major tier suppliers with tightly toleranced and innovative components for the automotive and industrial markets totaling approximately $300M in revenues globally. The Division holds a leadership position in North America and a growing presence in Europe. The division also supports ITW initiatives for our facility in China.

The division drives profitability by leveraging its innovative solutions, design engineering and global footprint.

Position Objective:

The Accountant 1 will report to the Controller and be responsible for performing detailed accounting to support and meet our financial reporting and control requirements. This position will be based out of the Division Headquarters in Zeeland, Michigan.

Essential Functions:

  • Compile and analyze financial information for general ledger accounts.

  • Assist with the preparation of balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position against key drivers.

  • Participate in month-end and quarter-end closing procedures.

  • Assist with item costing and annual cost roll.

  • Participate in physical inventory.

  • Assist with the coordination and application of accounting and accounting control procedures.

  • Prepare and analyze accounting records, journal entries, financial statements, or other financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.

  • Learn and apply the ITW Principles and Enterprise Strategy to eliminate complexity and improve performance indicators within area of responsibility.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


  1. Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Accounting

  2. 3-5 years of related experience, within a manufacturing environment

  3. Exhibit knowledge and ability to apply accounting principles and practices accurately and with minimal supervision.

  4. Experience with Financial Statement preparation.

  5. Experience with costing and inventory management.

  6. Possess transactional analysis and modeling skills.

  7. Experience working with information technology, ERP systems, and proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products. Advanced and accurate Excel skills required.

  8. Trustworthy in maintaining confidentiality on sensitive and protected matters.

  9. Possess creative and intuitive skills to analyze and improve processes / procedures.

  10. Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and willing to take collaborative initiative.

  11. Proficient time management and prioritization skills. Able to adapt to changes or delays.

  12. Able to be a self-starter, quick study, and work independently.

  13. Possess strong analytical skills to develop and interpret quantitative information.

  14. Be collaborative and able to function in a team environment among cross-functional areas of the company. Professional interpersonal skills are essential.

  15. Able to understand company manufacturing processes and procedures.
