Enterprise Finance & Information Technology (EF&IT) brings together enterprise functions that drive Wells Fargo’s financial management, information technology, corporate development, corporate properties and corporate security, and corporate strategy. Controllers Division

The Controllers Division delivers subject matter expertise, counsel, governance, and oversight for all Wells Fargo controllership activities to the business units and staff groups. The division includes the following functional areas: Accounting Business Unit Support, Accounting Operations, Accounting Policy, Enterprise Controls & Oversight, Enterprise Financial Reporting, Supply Chain Management, and Corporate Tax.

The Role:

Reporting to the Wholesale Lending ABUS Senior Leader, this role will be the controllership senior leader supporting the Wholesale Commercial Real Estate business partners, including specialized tax credit businesses. In addition, the role is responsible for directing overall Wholesale Lending controllership activities and requirements including Wholesale Lending-wide reporting, Controllership led or supporting process improvement and project management (including Six Sigma), monitoring of remediation efforts, new accounting policy and regulatory implementations and similar requests. The role oversees a team of about 20-30 resources that support a broad range of functions. Ideal candidate will possess 15+ years of financial services accounting experience, including at least 2-5 years of process improvement methodology and formal project management background, as well as a core understanding of commercial loan products. Additionally, successful candidates will possess restructure experience, including right shoring and change management activities. This role must be able to operate effectively in a matrix reporting environment as well as interface successfully with senior business executives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide Controllership Business Partner Support to the Wholesale Commercial Real Estate product segments including serving as the coordination point for pan-controllership involvement as needed

  • Lead the overall Wholesale Lending ABUS Team Efforts that are across the various commercial lending ABUS teams, including Wholesale Lending-wide efforts, projects and the overall process improvement programs

  • Serve as the delegate and back up for the Wholesale Lending ABUS senior leader when required

Controllership Business Partner Support:

  • Provide commercial loan accounting controllership support and be the Subject Matter Expert supporting the Commercial Real Estate business teams. Such activities include providing accounting and SEC/Regulatory reporting direction, controllership process guidance, Governance & Oversight framework support, and also quarterly attestation support for financial filings.

  • Support month-end closing, accounting, reconciliation and financial/regulatory activities related to the supported business areas through: 1. direct team work for specialized activities and 2. in partnership with the Loan Accounting Operations COE that supports the loan systems utilized by several of the areas supported by this team.

  • Provide quarterly attestation support to senior business executives and support the overall process and requirements.

  • Provide business partners (including business executives, operations, functional areas, etc.) the central point of contact for the controllership organization, including (but not limited to) alignment of accounting policy, regulatory reporting, tax and other functions to assist business partners with new transactions, operational changes, new accounting or regulatory or financial reporting requirements, new control/overall governance requirements, and relevant data needs.

  • Support the Wells Fargo Governance & Oversight framework and the Wells Fargo SOX/COSO teams as required for Real Estate business related activities including assisting as the process Subject Matter Experts in the update and review of process maps, risk matrices and control documentation as well as providing support for testing samples. In addition, provide documentation assistance for internal and external audits, SOX testing, and other financial reviews.

  • Support the completion and remediation of issues identified related to the Real Estate business areas that impact financial results and reporting as prioritized.

  • Provide a key leadership role in the project requirements as they are established relevant to the accounting and reporting impacts of business unit activities.

  • Ensure ABUS team provides support for more administrative financial activities as required.

Wholesale Lending ABUS Team Efforts:

  • Partner with and coordinate Wholesale Lending-wide requirements for the ABUS team including (but not limited to) new accounting standard implementations, regulatory requirements, management restructurings, data requirements, projects and other requests that come from different Wells Fargo teams.

  • Provide the leadership for the overall Wholesale Lending ABUS team and manage PMO and Six Sigma team to ensure project management is appropriately provided, continuous improvement (using Six Sigma and Lean Sigma methodologies) is performed and that the overall project delivery across the Wholesale Lending ABUS team is met. Such efforts include automation, off shoring and integration work.

  • Manage a continuous improvement model and discipline to ensure processes are as efficient and effective as possible, utilizing methodologies such as Lean Sigma, Six Sigma and Kaizen.

  • Operate as a key participant in various committees that impact the Wholesale Real Estate products/portfolios and Wholesale related projects.

  • Oversee Wholesale Lending-wide ABUS process, accounting and reporting activities, including BASEL reconciliations and other ongoing, recurring activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics, financial reporting, accounting reporting or risk reporting
